Default Blocked from mapping areas

At 17:33 Central Time, Friday, October 6th, 2007, I completed Mayhem in the Market with some friends whose characters were Canthan. My character was Elonan. When they accepted the reward they were transferred into Vizunah Square local while I was left standing in the sewer. It is apparent one may no longer go with others to gain access to these areas in order to open them up for personal reasons or for title. It would be nice if ANet would make it so that anyone may thru NPCs gain access to all areas for mapping puposes (Jade Quarry, Ft Aspenwood, the Boardwalk, Vizunah (both local and foreign quarters), etc.) It would be nice, but it cannot ever be expected. Afterall, anything we say to them only gets the pat response of "Put it in the Forums" so they can ignore it and us. So, here it is again.

If you're party leader this does not happen last time I checked.

Actually, I have 100% Canthan Cartographer without that place. You can get all of that outpost from outside it. Yeah, it may be a little harder, but when exploring other continents you get benefits if they're your own. Tyrians (at least, Tyrian old boys) get some of the arenas that are still left in. Elonians get the area at the very beginning where Kormir teaches you how to play.

In the words of Mr. T, "Shut yo jibber jabber! I pity da fool who camplain that a title is too hard to get when titles are meant to reward effort!". Can't seem to remember which episode he said that in, though...

Sub-note: I always think pop culture references soften the blow of a good flaming.

In addition to tagging along for Meyhem in the Marketplace, you must first complete the two missions on the start island. Have you done that?

u can map up to 101-101.2% in cantha, 100.8-100.9 + another 0.6 if u have the old old old arenas mapped, 100.5% in nightfall and 101% in eotn.
more then enough space for mistakes if u ask me

Well, having mapped all of Cantha through walking nose to rock left step left using my Ele, including going into that small portion of the board walk that I was allowed in my Ele got 99.7%. I am told that all I have to do is go use the exploit on the terrace and she will get the 100 like everyone else has. No thank you. I no longer give a damn, nor believe any of you concerning legitimate mapping of continent. I map because it is appropriate to my character. I insist that areas be open for those who will seek the title and are willing to use the exploits to get it.

Um....

Vizunah square is "exploit" as well...

You get one per character - not both. It's only through "exploiting" the quest that one can get in.

You know, you have posted a lot about Cartography. I understand you are close to maxing the title, but I do NOT think you have mapped everything you think you have.

When I was mapping, I did not use Textmod, did not alt-tab to a 100% map, and did not consult a map analyst. I watched my fog, and when I saw none, I assumed I completed that area. However, I ended up with 99.4% Elona, and no fog I could find to uncover. So, I did the long trek of redoing EVERY zone. I found 0.1% or 0.2% in several areas I had assumed were done. Of the last 0.6%, NONE of it changed my map, NONE.

You may well have a 'clear' looking map, but that does not mean you actually got all of an area mapped. Its a pain, but go back and redo areas, you may find stuff you didn't know was missing.

And please, quit asking for them to change the way mapping is done, as there is nothing wrong with it.

Fitz, I used the exploit in the NE corner of the Canthan continent, but did not get into the local area of Vizunah OR the area that gets opened up during Dragon Festival (Tyrian native). When I got my GMC, I had whole patches of fog that were way bigger than the area I "exploited". You can easily get 100% without using ANY exploits and only going places that non-native characters can access. ANet sends your requests to the forums because so many of the requests are purposeless, like this one. Non-natives can get 100% without using any exploits. If you have a question, ask a question. Do not whine.

Go ahead and whine. Don't listen to these fartknockers, they just don't like to hear "complaining"

well without a official GW forum this is all we can complain at, so get used to it. i don't like the way mapping is done either. If GW had an official forum I wouldn't be here, I would be complaining on there instead. But you're stuck with me.

They should have the fog of a map extend to just the walls, this edging crap is just utterly stupid.

I just did barbarous shore and garden of seborhin today.... holy mother of the gods (gaea) was that a bad idea.... most boring thing i ever done yet on this game... but i only do it cause i'm at near 80% done of elona cartography after beating the game... but then i read up on edging and to get 100% and i learn you have to basically edge EVERY SINGLE ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to go through everywhere again i'm sorry but if I went down every path I don't want to grope a wall the entire circumfrence of a map.

I mean there is just a point where it gets utterly stupid, ya know. Leave us alone and let us complain.

Well if anyone is still interested in getting into Vizunah Local, here is my tale...

Several times I have attempted to get my Paragon into Vizunah Square Local, and failed until I was able to finally figure out how to get in. Now I'm not entirely sure this is the definite way to get in, but I basically accompanied a guildie doing Mayhem in the Market right at the beginning of her quest acceptance. Meaning we completed the full quest, from start to finish, without stopping back into town or anything along those lines. We did our business in Wajjun Bazaar, went straight into the Undercity, and then zoned into Vizunah Local.

- My original strategy was finding a group in the Marketplace that was doing the last part of the quest, meet Togo in the Undercity. Every time I would always be left behind while the rest of the group joyfully entered Vizunah Local.

- Now it is possible that I could be missing some details that I overlooked that could be the definite reason why I got into Local, but I tried this again on my Dervish and was successful.

- One person mentioned that you have to complete the first two missions on the starter island... That could be somewhat true but even with those missions complete I was still having trouble getting into Local initially.

- Something else I should mention.. In both times getting my Dervish and Paragon to Local, my group consisted of 2 humans and 6 heroes/henchies. If that has any relevance...

Canthan born characters can enter Vizunah (foreign) after doing some missions, without any quests required...

And that is the kicker - I always figured it was a bug and would be fixed. Now, it either isn't a bug or isn't very likely to get fixed.

Eh, since I'm not looking for a map title it isn't *that* big a deal. Mainly I wanted it as a base to do a few missions from instead having to go the long way around every time. I've done those missions on all the characters that will bother with those missions, though I think it should still be fixed.

I got 100% without getting into Vizunah (local) and before foreign characters could enter the Shing Jea arena, so it is certainly possible.

Fitz, I'm sorry to say but mapping in Cantha does not require any exploits, I have 2 non native chars that have 100% that never dreamed of touching an exploit.

Your missing pieces somewhere, its mapping you can't insist anything in this game to the Dev's. You are not the be all, end all determining what anet does.

In the very early days there were lots of areas you couldn't get to if you were non-native to either Cantha or Tyria, the devs fixed that by allowing you in to these areas. As far as I know, foreign characters can still get there provided they are in a party doing Mayhem in the Market and they have completed Zen Daijun.

The area isn't necessary for cartography, but if you just want to get in there all you have to do is complete the Zen Daijun mission and then tag along with a Mayhem group.

I had the same problem. This worked for me.

Ok, so you have to clear the starter Island that ANet tells you not to bother witht to begin with. (There's nothing for you there! Why bother? Keep your arse on the mainland where it belongs, furiner! ~ Pretty sure that is what the guy means at the transition dock.)

Then you have all your areas that are locked out, but you can get this extra part of someone's faction earned town if you kill the priest and death charge with the merchant into their restricted area. O, another restricted area that we can get content credit for, .

And no, I don't believe going with a group into the "furiners not allowed" or "furiners get deloused here" stations is an exploit. It is a part of the ANet, by-gosh and by-golly we will make those pukes party with people they don't know or don't like one way or t'other.

There should be an NPC granting access to areas for mapping purposes so that they can be explored without interfering with the activities of people there. One should not have to go into Vizunah (the other quarter) with the intention of joining a group to map in and explore at the expense of mission rating or success. One should not have to join in to Ft Aspenwood or Jade Quarry and run around saying, "I'm Immune - I'm only here to map. Don't kill me." There is no part of the content area that can be revealed, even for the shear enjoyment of revealing the pretty map, that should not have simple access without interfering with other people's game.

I complained once. Got flamed just like this. But one of the people who flamed me made me realize why I actually was doing LGMC... because it was hard, and its actually an achievement and not some title that you can get in five minutes. So yeah, complain, but don't ignore what people say. Sometimes its worth listening to.
